Original Title: Castlevania
Director: Sam Deats
Air Date: 2017 – Present
It’s a series based on the third Castlevania game called “Dracula’s Curse”. A Bishop burned Count Vlad Dracula Tepes’s wife at the stake for the accusation of Witchcraft. The Count, mad as hell, decided to avenge his wife, unleashing his army of demons to cause absolute mayhem in the region.
I was never much of a fan of video games in general and never played Castlevania in my life, so I decided to give a chance after seeing the series in some random list on Rotten Tomatoes and I quite liked it.
This time I will start with the cons. The worst, in my opinion, being an extremely short season. This first season consists of four episodes of 20 minutes each what makes everything look rushed. I think a little of development between the second and last episode would not hurt anyone.
As for the pros, I really liked the protagonist, Trevor Belmont, voiced by Richard Armitage (A.K.A. Thorin, A.K.A. The main dwarf from The Hobbit). He is funny, skilled and just and this sense of what is just is what makes him get involved in this messy situation.
There are various aspects I liked, for example, the approach to religion, spirituality and if the masses should (or should not) be held responsible for their silence in front of injustice.
I will be hoping that the following seasons bring more development to the characters and their relationship with each other, especially between Trevor and the mage Sypha Belnades.
In the meantime, I will rate this series with an Eight.
